A colourful, high-capacity hall for early years education
Built for a new primary and pre-school education facility, this hall's brief was to achieve the maximum practical seating capacity within the existing building envelope, while giving the room a dynamic character in keeping with the playful, energetic nature of early years education.
The design needed to balance acoustic performance with a visual identity suited to young children, avoiding a purely functional or clinical finish.
High-specification acoustic timber panelling was overlaid with acoustic fabric panels in a custom geometric pattern, each panel selected in a different colour. Seating followed a dominant camel-tone palette, with individual seats in colours matched to the wall panels scattered at random through the rows to echo the wall design.
The finished 290-seat hall reads as bright, considered and distinctly suited to its young audience, while meeting the acoustic standards expected of a full-capacity multi-purpose space.
